For as long as I can remember, I have suffered from dark circles and puffy eyes. You know those problems where you think, “oh makeup will fix it!” – then realise that even with all the concealer money can buy, the world and their mum will still know you’ve had a bad nights sleep. A lot of you – if you follow me on Instagram, will have seen that I recently had a tear trough filler at Viva Skin Clinics. A couple of my friends have previously had treatments there, so I knew I would be in safe hands and off I went.
A lot of people have been asking me about the treatment, whether it hurts and exactly what the procedure includes so I thought I’d share this post for those who are interested. Tear trough filler is essentially a non-surgical alternative to blepharoplasty (the plastic surgery operation for correcting defects, deformities, and disfigurations in the eye region of the face). Dr Rupert uses an advanced micro-cannula technique which means there are only 2 injection points, where the dermal filler is injected under muscle around the eye’s hollow area. This effectively results in plumping the skin from underneath, tightening and flattening lines under the eye.
In complete honesty, I was so excited about the treatment up until the day before. I started researching it and began to think all sorts of crazy nightmares, “what if the needle punctures my eye?” / “what if I end up with loads of bruising/swelling?” / “what if I end up being temporarily blind?” – but there was absolutely nothing to worry about. Dr Rupert made me feel so comfortable about the whole procedure and explained to me that my eyes were both discoloured and extremely hollow – which explains why I have always felt so insecure about my dark circles!! When the treatment first started it was a little painful and uncomfortable as it was a sensation I have never experienced before, but as we moved on to the second eye, I began to relax and it was over within minutes!
As Dr Rupert had pointed out that my eyes were quite hollow, we decided to have two rounds of the treatment in order to get the desired results. If you look at the picture above, the first image is my eyes before the treatment – extremely dark, hollow circles which made my eyes appear as though they were bulging out. The second image shows my eyes after the first treatment, and as you can see there was a slight difference, however, I really wanted the final result to get rid of my bags and dark circles completely. The last image is my eyes after the second treatment, and oh my god I couldn’t be happier. I was absolutely over the moon with the results and I can’t thank the team at Viva Skin Clinics enough!
